My name is Dr Mandana Karkan, a Canadian dentist with 25 years experience in general dentistry.

I graduated from Umeå university in Sweden and built my experience in Norway, Sweden and Canada. I did my masters degree in science with endodontics as my field of research in Canada. While studying for my masters at UBC, I was an instructor at the undergraduate clinic. During this time, I worked at the UBC dental clinic as a general practitioner while I was passing my board exams. Immediately after my graduation I started working as an associate in Victoria on Vancouver Island. Over the following two years I developed a better understanding of what was involved in running a practice. All the mistakes that were made in the managing of staff and accounts gave me an insight on what not to do.
    In 2002 I decided to purchase my own practice. The clinic I bought had been a solo practice with only 2 staff and no hygienist. 

Within 2 years I developed the practice into a very busy and successful clinic with 2 associates, 2 hygienists and 5 staff with over a million dollar yearly income. Several years later, I chose to sell the clinic and relocate to the interior B.C. Due to the lack of available practices for sale, I decided to start a new clinic from scratch in a challenging area with wide range of competition and staff shortages. Within just a few years, my practice became quite successful again and I closed the sale of that clinic in 2020.
